New Dearborn High Football Field Takes Shape

The artificial turf for Dearborn High School’s new million dollar football field is expected to be installed by month’s end.

Below are some images of the current state of the new field that is being installed along Outer Drive. For those wondering, the home team’s bleachers will be on the east side of the field. The visiting team bleachers will back up to Outer Drive.

We aren’t thrilled with the location of the new field, which we have said before HERE.  But we are told this is progress and the field will be ready for Pioneer football this fall.

    Wonderful. We are ten million in the hole just for this year, laying off staff and teachers every week it seems but perhaps we can host Super Bowl XXXXXX at Dearborn High. What a screwed up sense of priorities.

    BTW … where is the retractable dome??

    Now that the high schools all have million dollar football fields shouldn’t the middle schools have them to? I’m not thrilled by any of this and neither are a hell of a lot of others.

    no matter what the cost, the 100 yr olds that live here will cry and bitch about everything they read.

    High school football makes money, if you ever left your house you would know this.

    I know that college football makes BIG money but I would certainly question high school football. Could you please tell me just where all this money is going? I attended a few games last year and there were more people on the opponents side than on ours.

    For some reason the math doesn’t add up for me. Please explain: If football is a money maker for the school then why do kids have to pay $150 to participate? Is this some kind of Title IX-related matter?

    The tennis courts were relocated behind the school. This happened before construction of the football field began.

    I know that a well rounded sports program builds leadership, teamwork and cooperation, but without the education, all of it is for naught. What percent of students go on to acheive success in sports compared to the arts and sciences? Or even the services industry. And Dearborn #1, when its all about $$$$ we lose our integrity. Schools need to focus on learning, extra things come after the education. High school atheletics should only be allow to participate when they have mastered the 3 rs’ first. Lets spend the money were it pays off in the long run, not the short term goals of a quick buck. If in fact it does make a buck!

    the title IX referrs to equality among all sports specifically for female sports which is high school and college are money losing ventures.

    150.00 or “pay to play” costs go to helmets which run about 125.00 a piece, shoulder pads which are about 100.00 and the rest of a players uniform.

    I quess my main point is that everyone complains about cost regardless of price, espeically people who have zero knowledge of the subject, such as field renovation. It would be the same if they spent a million dollars on new desks,
    I could insert anything of value with a million dollar price tag and the rresponse whould be the same.
    people like to bitch about these things because it makes them feel important and better yet, “intelligent”.

    The funny thing is that the cryers on this site act surprised at the price tag, as if it was just approved yesterday or in a secret meeting under city hall.

    No, Dearborn #1, we are not going to get over it. They have pissed away money on sports and the academics are in the toilet. Obviously these people have no business running anything; throw out the whole school board and get a professional management team in that will put academics first, NOT SPORTS. Children are in school to be taught and to learn reading, writing, math, social studies, and science, not to play sports; because of the major deficit situation and the fact that the sports programs and facilities cost so much, it is imperative that this excessive spending be reigned in. If you or other people want these extravagent facilities, you should pay for them; they are wholly unnecessary and a very wasteful use of taxpayer money.

    I’m not trying to feel “important” or “intelligent” I simply believe that the money could have been put to better use at this time. I don’t disagree with the sports, I simple think is should be a much lower priority. especially when so meny are failing. Let’s use it to hire more instructors, so the student/teacher ratio is lower. Pay overtime for tutoring like the coaching staff gets paid extra, etc… This blog is for all our opinions and comments even if we disagree, and we can still stay civil.

    Yes Dearborn #1. Every week or so. There is another batch of layoffs coming, delayed from March. Then every month or so they flick off another one or two throughout the school year. But maybe Dearborn High could get an arena football team (but that would require a dome) or they could rent out the field for mass tutoring of students in the district that cannot speak or read English properly.

    This field appears to have the same issues as the one at Cass Tech in Detroit, not enough end zone! Check it out, lawsuit pending!

    Go visit the field and see why they haven’t used it since a player got injured! Cass hasn’t played at home in several years! Detroit-Dearborn, Dearborn-Detroit. It’s all about the “leadership”!

    No Cass hasn’t had a game because the field was constructed incorrectly and was made to small for MHSAA regulations.

    what basis do you have for comments without merit regarding academics in the toilet??

    Im sure thats what you were told or overheard second hand, show proof

    Take a look at the endzone, End line-fencing! No room to catch (if necessary) and run out with out running into the fence! #1 Dearborn, all football fields are uniform, get in the ball game. With all the space the school has this is a very wrong placement. Yes a player got injuried and that’s the reason they don’t play at Cass’s million dollar field!

    Cass’s field was incorrectly developed and the field was actually shortened when constructed.
