Candidate Field for State House Seat Grows

The field of candidates considering a run for the 15th District seat in the Michigan House of Representatives is expanding.

The Capitol building in Lansing.

We reported here earlier this week that Dearborn Councilman George Darany and Linda Tafelski, a retired Dearborn schoolteacher, were the only two who had officially declared their candidacy for the seat of state Rep. Gino Polidori, D-Dearborn, who cannot seek re-election because of term limits.

Well, the list of candidates officially running has grown and now includes the following on the Democratic ticket: Hope Buxton, a Dearborn business owner, and Alex Shami, a former Dearborn school board member.

It now appears that Dearborn Councilwoman Suzanne Sareini, who finished as the second top voter getter in the last election and now serves as council pro-tem, is being urged by Republican party leaders to run for the position. The same is true for Bill Runco, a Dearborn lawyer and former district court judge, who has had a bumpy political history in Dearborn.

Other Democrats considering running for the position include Mike Berry, a Dearborn business owner who previously ran for Dearborn City Council; Fay Beydoun, active in Dearborn politics who works for American Arab Chamber of Commerce and Stephen Dobkowski Jr., who previously ran for Dearborn City Council.

This should be an interesting August primary.

Shami,Beydoun,Buxton,Dobkowski shouldn’t waste their time or money. Save it and run for something worthwhile. Give someone like Berry a shot, as we need a new face who hasn’t been suckered by the old boys network in town. Face it there is no way these people have a shot, so give the new guy a chance.

Just what we need….More rinos. Surely there has to be a real Republican, or even a Democrat who at least THINKS like a Republican, somewhere in the city who can drum up enough support to win.

    Hi…!!
Will be sad to lose Suzanne or George on Council but thrilled to see what Dave Bazzy can do. Having worked side by side with him on the City Charter Commission, he is a force to be reckoned with. Both Suzanne & George are honest and hardworking and either one will do fine in Lansing.

Well where do I begin. Dearborn’s professional politicians have been running Dearborn politics for too long! Take Gino Polidori, what a joke! How many pensions can he collect from taxpayers? One from the city from the fire department, I assume he will collect something from the city for being on the council for 8 years, and now he will have a pension from the state along with primo health benefits. My guess is that Gino leaves the Dearborn area shortly after his term expires, unless he finds another post to run for. Someone asked who with experience should go to Lansing. Well, maybe its time for a fresh face! Maybe its time to elect someone who doesn’t owe allegiance to so many groups. Maybe it is time for someone who is not worried about being so politically correct, who is not afraid to stand for something. I make it a point not to vote for incumbents in Dearborn, they will get their votes. I vote for new blood – new ideas and not politicians that are entrenched in rhetoric. …and so I ask “Why not me?”

  5. This is rediculous says:

Dominic you still got 2 or so months to file to run.

Gino Polidori must be trying to beat his idol George Hart for the number of pensions he will get. What a waste — get some vibrant new people in Lansing.

I wonder who Gino Polidori will endorse.
