Beer, Wine Coming to Dearborn’s Guido Theater

The Michael A. Guido Theater is located in the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center.

Taking a play from the revenue-generating pages of the Fox Theatre and the Detroit Opera House, the theater in the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center will soon begin offering patrons the option of purchasing beer and wine to consume while watching a show.

Cup holders are in the process of being installed in each of the 1,200 seats at the Michael A. Guido Theater and the plan is to begin sales of beer and wine for the upcoming show season, confirms Dearborn Mayor John B. O’Reilly, Jr.

The city already holds a liquor license for the Center for when special events are held at the facility so broadening it to include shows in the theater is a smart financial move. The combination of beer and wine sales along with a show schedule that in recent years has had broader appeal will go a long way to helping the Center generate even greater revenues.

    It’s about time. Good move.

Cup holders can also hold pop cups which go along great with popcorn which is a perfect accompaniment to classic movies on the weekend at the Mike Guido Theater.

Now somebody can get loaded and when he gets into an accident, or altercation, can sue the City. But in all actuality who cares, just add that lawsuit to the rest against Mark Somers and the City.

Classic movies? I prefer to see classic movies at a classic theater. Dearborn had several but got rid of them. Now I go to the Redford Theater to see the classics PLUS hear the vintage theater organ during intermissions. Tickets are usually less than $5.00 and concessions items are under two bucks! The place is owned and run by an all-volunteer organization who provide better service and atmosphere than you get at “nicer” places. 50 year-old movies are often SOLD OUT at the Redford. When was the last time you saw a sold out movie in this town? No cup holders or beer either. I wonder how they do it?

Nope. That’s covered under liability insurance. More conveniently, the police can just stroll next door on their lunch hour and hand out “drunk ‘n’ disorderly’s” like Thank You cards! Think of the revenue possiblities!
